Christmas at the Bottom of the Ocean is my 'year 8' contribution to my 10 year project to complete a Christmas album, one track per yer year... the ep 'Christmas is Awesome' was the first half of this project and this new single continues the effort...

Each song in the project is an homage to a Holiday music sub-genre (funny, cute, hymn, sexy, 'bells'...) This year, I'm tackling the important '80s Christmas torch song' category previously perfected in tunes like the Pretenders's '2000 Miles' and Wham's 'Last Christmas' ... My yule log on that particular holiday bonfire comes with a Bruce twist of course; my protagonist is singing his lonesome lament from a science expedition in a submarine at the bottom of the ocean, and his singing companions include humpback whales and jellyfish (obviously)

It should already be clear that this new tune is a critical addition to your holiday music catalogue, and for that, I'd like to formally say 'you're welcome'

Christmas at the bottom of the ocean
A million miles away from where you are
Stuck here in this submarine
10 thousand leagues beneath the sea
Sending Christmas wishes by sonar

The whales are singing Silent Night in harmony
The ships bells seem to chime along in tune
But I’m stuck here at the bottom of the ocean
And it doesn’t feel like Christmas without you

Christmas at the bottom of the ocean
The surface twinkles like a distant star
Candlelit by phosphorescent jellyfish
With gifts of light like wise men from afar

Plankton drift like snow outside of the starboard porthole
Stuck here in the deepest pool of blue
The submarine is decked out with the season’s finest colours
But it doesn’t feel like Christmas without you

Next year I’ll back before December
This science expedition will be through
I’ll bring home a starfish to ornament the tree
And I’ll spend season somewhere close to you

This year it’s Christmas at the bottom of the ocean
Locked down here in Davy Jones’ tomb
The whales are singing Little Town of Bethlehem
And it doesn’t feel like Christmas without you…
